We are often asked what a typical Wedding Budget Breakdown is. Of course, each one is different, but a good starting point is:

40% Venue: Ceremony & Reception, including food and drink

20% Photography

15% Flowers

10% Wedding outfits

10% Entertainment

5% Everything else!

In addition I’d advise allowing an extra 10% contingency. I believe that a budget is a balancing act – make a saving then add it to the contingency to cover the unforeseen extras.

The Ceremony:

  • Registrar attendance fees
  • Certificate fees
  • Notice of marriage fees
  • Wedding rings (not normally in Wedding budget – just don’t forget them!)
  • Venue hire fee
  • Welcome / Reception beverages
  • Transport
  • Musicians

The Reception:

  • Venue hire / ground hire fee / Marquee hire

  • Catering

  • Beverages

  • Wedding Cake

  • Entertainment

  • Favours

  • Linen rentals

Attire:

  • Wedding dress

  • Bridal shoes & accessories

  • Bridal hair & make-up

  • Bridesmaids outfits

  • Grooms attire

  • Best Man & Ushers attire

Floristry:

  • Bridal bouquet

  • Bridesmaids bouquets

  • Button holes

  • Ceremony & Reception venue flowers

Photos:

  • Photographer

  • Filmographer

Miscellaneous:

  • Gifts: Parents / Bridesmaids / Best man / Ushers

  • Wedding Insurance

  • Stationery: invitations, seating plan & place cards etc.

  • Postage

  • First night accommodation

Don’t try and organise everything at once and don’t be tempted into placing orders too soon. Never pay a deposit for anything until your registrar, then venue have been confirmed.

Most importantly – make sure you are both happy!
